Essay #2

Stepparents

On television, stepparents and step-children are usually depicted as the pro and con of a relationship. Meaning, that the relationship between the two are usually not well. I have no experience with stepparents so I could not tell you how it is and how it feels. I have full respect for what stepparents do for their step-children. Love comes in all shapes and forms. It's all in the heart and how much effort you give to the person you care about.

In television, depictions are misjudged. On t.v., the watcher can see a distraught teenagers being taken care of by inexperienced stepparents. T.V. shows how crummy of a life a teenager would have if they were to be living with stepparents. But that's Hollywood. I believe, from my friends experiences, there is mutually respect between the both. I mean sure, in order for a child to have stepparents, there must have been an awkward or distraught event happen to them. I feel for the children. T.V. depicts not the reality but the thought of most Americans.

Love comes in all shapes and sizes. There are so many ways to give love, receive love, and show it. I have full and utmost respect for parents who want to bring a helpless child into their lives. You don't have to blood related to show love. Love comes from deep inside you. The reader of this essay should be told that love can be shown by trust and respect. I

The positive aspects of a step-relationship are that you get to communicate and be loved by a whole other family. The step-children would have to learn to adapt to a whole environment. Also, the stepparents would have to love someone who wasn't blood-related. It would be amutually experience for the both of them.

Step-relationship are a new experience for everyone. It gives the chance for two different people to come as one and love each other. I have no experience, but I can say that I have full respect for all the families that are not blood-related.

Essay #1

Madness in great ones must not unwatched go.

Madness, in general, shall not go unwatched. In today's world, society has been involved with many events with the cause of madness. Everything from serial killers, leaders and the normal people can never be taken for granted. Madness can control a person's mind, body and sense. Madness shall be watched in all ages, great ones, and even checks and balances.

Madness can take over any age. Some young, some old. Either way, society needs to keep a close watch. Children and teenagers of all ages can grow up to be in the state of madness. It depends on how their home life has been affected. For example, Ottis Toole, an infamous serial killer, who had a tough early life, became affected when he was only young. Matter of fact, he ended a man's life at the age of fourteen. When a child doesn't get the attention and support
he needs, he can become "mad." Ottis Toole's mother was drunk, disowned him as a child and was sold for one bottle of alcohol. These events caused the upbringing of a monster.

Great ones can have madness and need to be watched vigorously. In our past times, the world has been manipulated by many great leaders. Hitler, a German leader, is a great example. He guiltly murdered millions of innocent people coming from jewish decent, homosexuals and mentally disfunctionally people. Also, Suddam Hussein, who also murdered thousands of innocent iraqis. These two "mad men" should have not gone unwatched. Suddam Hussein dictatored for more than 20 years and was never watched. To the press he was a bad dictator. Behind the scenes, he was still a bad dictator but also was murdering innocent lives without anyone watching.

A dictator is a person who has full power over a government. Checks and balances keep one person from having all the power of a certain government. In the United States, our government has checks and balances. They are known as the judicial, executive and legislative powers. Each sector has its own responsiblities and pwer. Not one is has more and greater power over the other. An example of no checks and balances is Suddham Hussein. Suddham ruled as a dictator, having all the powers of the government. He turned Iraq into a "hellhole." If checks and balances were in order for that type of government, there would have been seperated powers. Suddham Hussein would not have been able to murder innocent lives.

Madness can come in all shapes and sizes and can come in at any age and should never be unwatched. Also, "Great Ones" can become mad with power and take advantage of properties they control. All madness should be watched for.

Thinker or Doer

I believe I am both a thinker and a doer. I love to think of new ideas and creations and I love to create. A thinker is a person who has ideas in their mind and creates new ones. A doer is a person who gets the job don no matter what circumstances.

What appeals to me is believing that I can create things from my ideas. I love to create things and put them to work. I love to draw. Drawing is one of many. Also, when I have an idea I just don't think of it. I put it on a piece of paper or I create it.

Another definition of a thinker is a person who thinks before their actions. Other than a doer, who just thinks of something and does it, not thinking about the consequences that lie ahead. I believe, in this state of mind, that I am a thinker definitely. I think before I do something. I think it's dumb just going on and doing something and not think of the punishment.

I am a full-time thinker and a part-time doer.

Parents and Spying

I believe parents have the right to spy on their children. Parents have every right to know. Children belong to their parents until they are formally and mature enough to live by themselves. Parents should be able to know when and where their children are and where they are going. Checking on their children is not a crime. They have every right.

I mean, if a child is mischievious, a parent should have the right to now if what that child is doing. It's more like a parole. But parents do have the right.

From my prospective, if my parents wanted to spy on me, I would have to admit it would be very uneasy for me that they were doing that. But if they have a reason I would have to agree unwillingly. Parents have the right to spy on their children.

Pare tns have the right to spy on their children to a cerain point. Parents shouldn't be able to take advantage of the fact they can spy. I'm just saying they can spy, but to an extent.

Parent's Advice

Often, my parents have told me to not drink alcoholic beverages, to not listen to anyone else but myself, even to go for the gold. Advice from my parents is very important. The advice is in no way, shape, or form negative. It's all positive advice for the future. All of these advices I have taken into consideration. I have never drank one ounce of alcohol, I only listen to what I feel and not others opinions, and I always try my hardest in whatever I do. There have been times when these helpful pointers have been applicable. I have had incidents where kids friends have invited me to go drink. I say no. There has been times when someone tries to convince of what I do not believe. I believe only myself.

Revenge

The act of revenge is a force to be reckoned with. Revenge is when someone does something and the person wants to get back at them. Here is a story familiar to a lot of people.

On September 11, 2001, around 6:30 a.m., the United States was awoken by the tragedy of 4 hijacked planes. Two of which, crashed into both twin towers, one who crashed into the pentagon, and one who was on track for the white house but fell short. Thank god. These four hijacked planes killed innocent people. Nearly 3,500 innocent lives were ended on that day. The misfortunes of this day will live in infamy just like pearl harbor.

Of course, as our country is, we took action. A few days later, we declared a war on terrorism. We went looking for the man responsible, Osama Bin Laden. Ever since then we have changed a whole country and made it a better place. We made Iraq more secure, even developed a new government for them to use.

This act on terrorism woke a sleeping giant. We took revenge on the terrorism that was going on in our world. This is my example of revenge.

And Then There Was One.........

I believe that the three companies should merge into one company. It could save the three companies from going bankrupt. Chevy, Ford, and Cadillac should merge, but with that,"leaving the clunkers (Pontiac, Mercury, Saturn, et al.) by the side of the road. It would take a healthy dose of Nietzsche's "creative destruction," but that's preferable to total destruction, especially when you're talking about an industry that supports 2.5 million jobs. (Naughton) With that in mind, I believe that the merge would benfit a lot of people.. Even though people would lose jobs, the automobile industry could possibly get back on their feet.

College OPTION'S

The program, College OPTION'S, is important because it gives scholars a better opportunity to get into college. Also, it gives more insight about how to get into college and the different majors. It is a great and important program for future college students to use.
The program gives more chances to get financial aid. In these troubling times, colleges are cutting admissions and it is harder than ever to get into the colleges students want to go. This program gives these students a better understanding and helps them through the troubling times and into college to start their future.
In Shasta County, only 18.8% have a post-secondary degree. I believe this is because of how small our educational schooling is. Including; high-schools, middle schools. Also, we only have 2 junior colleges close and one private college near. I believe it is harder to get into CSU's and UC's and people just go to junior college.
I believe there is such a difference because these times are so hard and people can't afford a post-secondary degree and just stick with a smaller one. When we get out of these hard times, I believe our county will overcome and get a better percentage and go off and get their post-secondary degree.

The Worst Ads on TV

Stephen King is an accredited novel-writer. He talks about how prescription drugs have major side-effects. Well. if prescription drugs have side effects, don't you think they shouldn't be advertised? I believe they shouldn't. Why take the risk of producing a drug with major effects on the television. It proposteris. If a drug is that dangerous, consumers should not advertise it, nor even people should take it. It mkaes no sense risking your life to make your body more perfect. It's stupid. There should only be drugs to distribute that are safe for the human body.

Samuelson's Theories

Samuelson's points are clear. If we are not careful with our economy, we will begin a 1929 crisis. The same thing happened in 1929 with te stock market crashes. When the stock market crashed, America went into an ugly depression. Causing 25% of the America's population to be unemployed.

He states that in 1929, the stock market crashed causing America to absorb into a recession. He believes, with the $700 billion bailout, we could unfortunately get into a recession and worse, a depression. He then states that the government is taking ahold of the situation a little faster than in 1929.

A few examples that we might be going to into a recession is that the government gave out $700 billion to help with bills. Also, America, in the 1920's borrowed a lot of money cars, transportation, houses and such. Isn't this prettymuch the same thing? Back then, we loaned money. Now, we are loaning money. Back then, we got ouselves into a recession. Now, what will happen?

$700 Billion Pay-out

So:

Wall Street is in a "pickle" and they want us to bail them out. 700 billion tax payer dollars. I think Wall Street needs to find there own way of getting the money. I mean, if they got themselves into this mess, they can get themselves out of it.

Binge Drinking

Kids today enjoy the idea of getting drunk and wasted. Underaged drinking is increasing as the seconds go by. The question is, should America lower the drinking age to 18? It's an easy answer, no. The idea of having a law for drinking is for safety. The drinking age needs to stay in effect.

More kids are dying because of alcohol. Just in the past five years, at our school alone, have had 7 student drink-related fatalities. If you give alcohol to a teenager, they are not going to be responsible with it. The will take advantage of the idea of having alcohol and down the road can cause a life or death situation.

Another reason for not changing the age is because of addiction. It has clearly been researched that the more underaged kids who drink will become addicted to the product and die. Addiction is a hard thing to get over. Kids are not ready to have those responsibilities.

Another idea what I want to hit on is responsibility. Teenagers say, well when I am 18 I am considered an adult. But in reality, at 18 teenagers will be only starting to receive the lessons in life to become an adult. I consider alcohol a great power. Someone once said,"Great power comes great responsibilty." I will stand behind that statement 100%. It's so true. Teenagers will not be able to control the power of alcohol.

The government is deciding on lowering the drinking age to 18. If the government proceeds with this new law, it will only start more chaos, more addictions, and more death.

The Energy Plan

The energy plan, I think, has not gone into effect. We still have problems with energy crisis often. I think we are getting the idea of a good energy idea but we are not there yet. I think the solution is to go to wind, solar, and maybe put more study into capturing a lightning bolt. Research says that a lightning bolt could produce enough energy to keep New York running for about 10 years. That's a lot of energy! My family and I have changed our driving habits to help with the dramatic gas prices. We have been carpooling a lot more now. Also, with heating, we only keep one part of the house warm and the other cool. And when we are not there, we leave it off. I say we should study on other ways to provide energy to the world. We have the researches, let's start using them.

LHC

Is the potential downside worth the risk with the LHC?

The project has it's pros and cons. If the project fails and malfunctions, we lose. If the the project is a success and get the information we want, we win. It's all about how we look at it. My big issue is I hope they took all the precautions into the downfalls. I read that they have had money issues? Well....I hope they put that money into it wisely. I mean, they have spent billions of dollars on a project that might fail? I believe they should've put more experimentation and thought into the project. If your going to spend that amount of money on a project, make sure it will be a 100% success.

Heroes

3 of My Greatest Heroes:

(1) My Grandpa-My Grandpa, in many ways, is my biggest hero. One is that when the toughest times came abroad he always has a smile and carries on life like it was his prime. Also, my grandpa always looks for the good in people. I will never hear him talk negative about anyone. And last, my grandpa cares for me very much. He always tries 100% to make it my sporting events and any extraccuricular activities. He is really proud of me and makes me proud of myself.

(2) My Mom- My mom, also, inspires me in many ways. She might be hard on me on my school work, to the point where I am so annoyed, but she pushes me to make myself better for the future that lay down the road. She also makes it to every activity I am in, even if it is missing work. She gives me nothing but positive input and output. Ok, sometimes she'll tell me pointers, but its all good for me.

(3) My Dad-My dad...is all about the sports. He gives me the most pointers and tips. If I want to go and work on a certain ability, he will help anytime. He works a lot of the time and is gone a lot, but he always makes it to anything I am in. It feels really great to have a dad that supports you with whatever you do. He also made me a better person. He has taught me, through life, to be mature and sincere to everyone around. It is he who has made me the person I am today. I don't drink, I don't smoke, I don't do anything stupid because of the morals my father has set for me to accomplish.

Beowulf

Beowulf has learned the structure of leading a group of men into battle because in the future he will need it to become a ruler or king. He also will have learned to use many inportnant traits for being a great king, such as; horsmanship, leadership, swordsmanship, and sailing.
